Pioneering cars from the company's history: „Ten years Porsche Museum“ at RETRO CLASSICS® STUTTGART

In January 2009, the gates opened for the first time, today it is considered one of the most spectacular automobile museums in the world: For its "round-number birthday", the Porsche Museum will be showing milestones and masterpieces at RETRO CLASSICS® STUTTGART.

"For us, RETRO CLASSICS® is always the start to our external publicity events," says Achim Stejskal, Director of the Porsche Museum and Historical Publicity Work. With the exhibition at the entrance to the Porsche Hall (L-Bank Forum, Hall 1), we want to look back over the first ten years of the Porsche Museum, and present some epoch-making cars.

Many of them will be celebrating their own anniversaries in 2019, for example the Porsche 917, which had its world première in 1969 at the Automobilsalon in Geneva. After many years of painstaking work, the model with chassis number 001, which will be prominently displayed at RETRO CLASSICS®, is again in its original condition. The oldest model at the show – at 70 years of age – will be a 356/2 Gmünd Cabriolet. This car, which was delivered in February 1949, has one of presumably only two Keibl bodies.

Fans and connoisseurs are in for a very special surprise: "With the 910/8 Bergspyder, Porsche won the European Hill Climb Championship in 1967 and 1968," explains Stejskal. "Today, this model is a prime example of lightweight construction, for conventional materials were replaced by titanium, magnesium, aluminium and plastic." For the first time in over 50 years, the lovingly restored vehicle will again be on view to the public.

On top of that, the visitors can look forward to a real flesh-and-blood racing legend: The former works driver Hans Herrmann will be holding two autograph sessions at the stand of the Porsche Museum (Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, 14.00 to 15.00 on each day).
