Nuremberg trade fair organizer AFAG takes over RETRO Messen GmbH

The private trade fair organizer AFAG will take over the Stuttgart trade fair organizer RETRO Messen at the end of February 2023. The portfolio of RETRO Messen GmbH includes the trade fairs RETRO CLASSICS® Stuttgart, RETRO CLASSICS BAVARIA® in Nuremberg and EuroMotor® in Stuttgart, which will continue to be held at the familiar locations.

Nuremberg/Stuttgart - The former Managing Director and founder of RETRO CLASSICS® Karl Ulrich Herrmann will go into well-earned retirement at the end of February, after RETRO CLASSICS® 2023. Until then, he will continue to manage the operational business and remain the contact person for all exhibitors as well as partners.

After this year's RETRO CLASSICS®, which will take place in Stuttgart from 23 to 26 February 2023, Karl Ulrich Herrmann will hand over the business to AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen GmbH and thus to the new managing directors Henning and Thilo Könicke. The events of RETRO Messen GmbH will continue under the new management at the familiar locations in Stuttgart and Nuremberg. The existing RETRO Messen team will remain in place and will continue to look after the successful RETRO trade fairs under the new management.  As managing directors of the family-owned company AFAG, Henning and Thilo Könicke have many years of experience in the trade fair industry: "We are delighted to be able to continue and further develop the three RETRO Messen GmbH events, which are already very well established in the market. AFAG has a tradition of more than 70 years as a trade fair organizer, and we will now also bring this experience to bear on the RETRO Messen events. Furthermore, in terms of content and concept, there are various points of contact between the AFAG events and the RETRO CLASSICS® fairs, from which both companies will benefit. We would like to thank Karl Ulrich Herrmann for his confidence in placing the future of his company in our hands." Karl Ulrich Herrmann founded the RETRO CLASSICS® trade show, the world's largest trade show for classic cars and driving culture, more than two decades ago. Now he is placing the trade fair business in younger hands: "We are delighted to have found competent and committed successors for the RETRO trade fairs in AFAG and its managing directors Henning and Thilo Könicke. We are certain that their many years of trade fair expertise will enable us to successfully develop and expand our events," says Karl Ulrich Herrmann.

The RETRO CLASSICS® trade fairs have been meeting places for driving culture since 2001. Until now, they have been organized by RETRO Messen GmbH, which is based in Stuttgart. The portfolio includes the world's largest trade fair for driving culture and lifestyle, as well as other events and activities related to driving culture and lifestyle. The largest event in the portfolio is RETRO CLASSICS®, which takes place annually at Messe Stuttgart. This is followed in December by RETRO CLASSICS BAVARIA® in Nuremberg. For exhibitors and visitors of the RETRO trade fairs, the contact persons remain the same and contracts already concluded continue to apply. AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen GmbH is one of the most successful private trade fair organizers in Germany. AFAG has been operating from Nuremberg since 1947 and from Augsburg since 1991. In 2022, AFAG acquired Munich-based NETCOMM GmbH and has since had a third location in Munich. To date, AFAG has staged nearly 800 trade show events for a wide variety of industries and topics. AFAG's portfolio currently includes 20 events. These include international trade fairs as well as national public fairs. In addition, special interest trade fairs, congresses, events and show events are also staged by AFAG. AFAG currently employs around 70 people.
