Worldwide success from Munich14.01.2019
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG was founded one hundred years ago in August 1918. The internationally operating group is now one of the most important large industrial enterprises in the Free State of Bavaria while the marque is a global symbol of German quality. RETRO CLASSICS® STUTTGART 2019 will devote an entire hall (Hall 4) to BMW for the first time. In addition to presentations by clubs and premium dealers, visitors can look forward to two extremely interesting special shows.
"Global player" in motorsport
An early success in the International Alpine Rally in 1929 marked the start of BMW's involvement in motorsport. Ever since then, the Bavarian car maker has been represented in many different race series – Formula 1, touring car sport or Formula E. The special show "BMW Motorsport" during RETRO CLASSICS® STUTTGART will provide an opportunity to see famous classic cars again, e.g. the Formula 1 BMW Benneton B186 from 1986, the Williams BMW V10 driven by Ralf Schuhmacher from the year 2000 or the BMW V12 LMR, the winning car at Le Mans in 1999. In addition to the modern powerhouses, the special show will feature pre-war models restored to their former glory. They will include a BMW 328 dating from 1937 and the "Stösser BMW KR6 compressor car, which was only rediscovered last year and was the first racing car to be produced by BMW in 1934. "The aim of this first-class show is to present a broad spectrum extending from the origins of BMW motorsport right up to the present day," says Karl Ulrich Herrmann from the organiser RETRO Messen GmbH. "We are therefore proud to be able to show this enormous range of BMW racing cars at our trade fair. This was only made possible through the enthusiastic cooperation with the individual owners.“
Legendary twin-valve motorcycles
Even before the start of car production, BMW was much talked about on account of its technically advanced motorcycles which have remained a figurehead of the company right up to the present day. In another special show the Wendlingen-based BMW specialist Siebenrock will remember the twin-valve motorcycles produced between 1969 and 1996. "These 'modular' produced motorcycles are now very much in demand again, especially among young people who personally want to try them out," explains Harriet Siebenrock. She says this is especially true of "smaller machines." The exhibits will include items from almost three decades of motorcycle history.
